Lessons From the Wild and the Animal Kingdom We Can All Learn

I had some deep reflections on nature, the wild, animals, and human beings in the last couple of days. It is always good to be back in Ishara at the Masai Mara, a place I refer to as home. I feel my happiest and truest self over here amidst the deep wild and raw nature. Today we witnessed a leopard and her kill. It was beautiful, sad, yet magical. It’s so easy for the human mind to judge and be ruled by emotions. And then there is reality and the way things need to be.

Nature is a complex and awe-inspiring force that surrounds us every day. It’s a diverse world full of wildlife, wilderness, and wild animals that offer us glimpses into the intricacies of life. But, like humans, nature has a darker side that’s often overlooked.

On the surface, nature and its inhabitants seem idyllic and peaceful. The beauty of a sunset, the majesty of a mountain range, and the wonder of a wild animal all evoke a sense of awe and serenity. But when we look closer, we see that nature can also be cruel, selfish, and violent.

Wild animals, like humans, exhibit selfishness, anger, and violence as means of survival.

Predators hunt and kill prey, often in brutal and graphic ways. Prey, in turn, will fight back with all their might to escape becoming a meal. This is the way of the natural world, a never-ending cycle of life and death, of selfishness and self-preservation.

But beyond the dark side of nature lies a beauty that cannot be denied. The diversity of species, the intricacies of ecosystems, and the complex relationships between animals and their environments all contribute to the incredible wonder that is nature.

Animals, in many ways, are like humans. They have emotions, form bonds with others, and are capable of complex behavior. There are many lessons we can learn from the animal kingdom. One of the most important is the concept of balance.

In nature, everything exists in a delicate balance. Each creature has a specific role to play, and when one part of the ecosystem is out of balance, it can have far-reaching consequences for everything else. This is where the darker side of nature comes into play.

For example, when predators become too aggressive, they can drive their prey to extinction, leading to the collapse of the entire ecosystem. When herbivores overgraze, they can damage the habitat, leading to the same outcome. The same can be said for humans. When we become too selfish or violent, it can have far-reaching consequences for ourselves and those around us.

But when we learn to live in harmony with one another and with the world around us, we can achieve incredible things. The beauty of nature and the lessons it teaches us can inspire us to live more peaceful and fulfilling lives.

Moreover, there is a deep spiritual connection between nature and humans that many people feel. The beauty of a sunrise, the majesty of a mountain range, and the awe-inspiring sight of a wild animal in its natural habitat can all be incredibly powerful experiences.

For centuries, cultures throughout history have viewed nature as a source of wisdom and guidance. Native American tribes, for example, often looked to animals as symbols of strength, courage, and wisdom and sought to learn from their behavior and habits.

In conclusion, nature is both beautiful and brutal. It’s a complex world that’s full of life and death, of self-preservation and selfishness. But beyond its darker side lies a beauty that’s difficult to put into words. Its diversity, intricacies, and complexities make it one of the most awe-inspiring forces in the world.

Humans, like animals, are capable of both good and bad behavior. But we can learn from the natural world and strive to live in harmony with one another and the world around us. We can find inspiration and guidance in the beauty of the natural world and use that knowledge to better ourselves and the world around us. So, take a moment to appreciate the beauty of nature and learn from its incredible wisdom.
