How To Overcome Worry and Anxiety With 1 Powerful Tool

Can faith help you overcome worries and anxiety? Before trying to decode this, I want to share something with you.

For over 13 years, I believed that nutrition was everything. As a nutritionist, I thought if you ate right, your health would automatically fall into place. But two years later, I realized that nutrition is only part of the equation—exercise plays a huge role too. Shortly after, I discovered the critical importance of sleep. Nutrition and exercise lose their power without proper rest.

Even then, something was still missing. Many of my patients had excellent diets, regular exercise routines, and quality sleep, yet they were still getting sicker. That’s when I recognized the profound role emotional wellness plays. Today, after 13 years of experience, I firmly believe that emotional wellness is at the top of the health paradigm, followed closely by sleep, exercise, and nutrition.

We live in an era where mental health issues, emotional struggles, and relationship problems have become the root cause of many physical diseases. People are suffering in different ways, and it’s easy to judge others for their vices—whether it’s smoking, drinking, or other habits. However, these coping mechanisms often arise from deep emotional voids. We need to be gentle with ourselves and others because, at the core, everyone is struggling in some way.

Whether it’s billionaires, the less privileged, the sick, or the healthy, everyone suffers. The question is: how do we break free from the destructive patterns of worry and anxiety?

Most people already know why they’re unhappy—whether it’s fear, insecurity, or anxiety, these feelings control their lives. We often turn to stress management techniques like meditation, journaling, or spending time in nature. While these are valuable tools, they don’t always fix the problem. At best, they help us manage it.

In recent times, I’ve leaned strongly towards the deeper meaning of faith.

When I say faith, it’s not necessarily religious. It doesn’t require you to be religious or spiritual—it’s the simple act of trusting in something beyond yourself.

Even if you don’t believe in a higher power, you have faith in some things. You trust the sun will rise each day, that your heart will continue to beat, and that your body will function without conscious effort. Faith is embedded in our existence, whether we acknowledge it or not.

What I’ve realized is that faith is one of the most powerful tools to combat worry and anxiety. When faced with uncertainty or situations beyond your control, faith comes to the rescue. Whether through prayer, or simply trusting the universe, faith lifts the burden of worry off your chest.

That doesn’t mean avoiding action. There are steps we need to take in life—whether it’s clarity, courage, or strength we seek, action is necessary. But once those actions are taken, faith allows us to surrender and trust that whatever happens will be for the best.

Without faith, we live in a constant state of fear, insecurity, and despair. Our minds exaggerate small problems into bigger issues, creating illusions of things that may never happen. Think back to the things you once worried about the most. Did they actually come to pass? In most cases, the answer is no.

Over the last few months, I’ve experienced day-to-day stress and moments of anxiety about areas of my life where I needed clarity. While meditation helped, it only covered the anxiety like a band-aid. But when I started practicing faith—truly trusting that things would work out—it felt like a weight lifted off my chest.

Having faith doesn’t mean being passive.

You still need to take action, but faith allows you to trust the process, to believe that the outcome—whether or not it’s what you expected—will be right for you.

We often want to control everything, from the outcomes of surgeries to how our relationships turn out. But this control stems from fear, and decisions made out of fear rarely lead to the best outcomes. Trust your doctors, trust the process, trust yourself. If you don’t have faith in something, don’t pursue it, because it won’t work. But when you do have faith, you set the foundation for success.

In relationships, insecurity often destroys what could have been beautiful. Past betrayals may cause us to doubt and fear, but moving forward requires faith in the new. Relationships thrive on communication and actions, but most importantly, they need faith. Without it, fear takes over, and fear always cripples emotional well-being.

We live in a society that’s emotionally crumbling because we lack faith. Fear, insecurity, greed—all of these negative emotions stem from a shallow heart. But when we have faith, we are willing to take risks, to trust that things will be okay, even when nothing is guaranteed.

So, what can you do today to combat worry and anxiety?

Begin by deepening your understanding of faith, whether it’s through religion, spirituality, or simply trusting the universe. Start transferring your burdens to whatever or whoever you believe in. Even if you don’t pray, have faith that something is looking after you.

The power of faith is undeniable. It’s a practice that allows us to break the destructive habits of worry, anxiety, and chronic stress, helping us live more peaceful, fulfilling lives.
