Want to Stimulate Your Liver Function? This Homemade Beverage Can Help!

Let us talk about a simple drink you can make to stimulate the health of your liver. There is too much information about how one can undergo liver detox. But let me tell you, not everything you read is true because you need to understand how toxins accumulate in the human body and what a cleanse or detox is.

The drink that I teach you to make – some of you may already be doing it in your little ways. But there is a science and reason why we do it.

Why does the health of your liver matter?

The liver is one of the most crucial organs in the human body. Many people do not realize its importance for fat loss, metabolism, digestion, constipation, hormonal balance, thyroid health, and more. It is all interconnected. It is where most of our healthcare system breaks down because we treat every organ and its issues separately.

Many people today with hormonal imbalances are popping pills without looking at the relevance of the liver. Yet others with Hashimoto’s thyroid and even hypothyroid don’t even consider looking at their liver function. People are put on diet plans to lose fat without looking at their liver health.

And one of the biggest issues we see in India is gallbladder surgeries. If there is a right reason to undergo the surgery, of course, go ahead and do it. But most people who are detected with gallstones are immediately asked to go for surgery which is not entirely right.

You need to understand the root cause before you cut off your gallbladder. It is most likely that you still have a primary problem of the liver – the production of bile.

Why does the right amount of bile production matter?

The drink I suggest today will help you produce the right amount of bile. Did you know that most people don’t produce the right amount of bile?

A growing health issue in India is fatty liver, especially non-alcoholic fatty liver. Many people say there are no medicines, which is true. But because there are no medications, the only way to improve it is purely lifestyle. You can do a lot with your lifestyle to reverse Grade 3 to Grade 2, Grade 2 to Grade 1, and go from a mildly fatty liver to no fat in your liver.

What is a fatty liver? The answer is in the name itself. There is fat in your liver. That does not sound like a good thing, right? When you have fat in the liver, this is what may happen. You will not be able to produce the right amount of bile. If you cannot produce the right amount of bile, it affects several functions.

For instance, your bile has an enzyme that converts inactive T4 to T3. It is required for your thyroid function. If you cannot convert T4 to T3, you have hypothyroidism. It could be one of the among many other reasons why you have a thyroid problem. But it certainly is one of the biggest reasons. The conversion of T4 to T3 happens in the liver.

Now, for everyone who has been treating their thyroid by only looking at only the thyroid gland, you know that you may be missing out on an important aspect that can potentially reverse your thyroid problem. In most cases, this is by including a protocol for your liver.

What buffers testosterone and estrogen in the human body? Your liver. If the buffering of testosterone and estrogen has gone wrong because you have a problem with your liver (cirrhotic liver, high liver enzymes, or fatty liver) guess what? It starts affecting your hormonal balance.

Whether you have estrogen dominance or low testosterone, which is linked to almost everything from osteoporosis to belly fat, endometrial issues, low libido, and the inability to build muscle – you need to consider the health of your liver in your protocol. It is what holistic and integrative lifestyle medicine does.

If you don’t have the right amount of bile, you will always feel hungry. Why? Because the function of bile is to extract fat from the food you eat. If you are unable to do this, you can never turn on leptin, your satiety hormone. It is a chemical messenger that sends a signal to your brain saying, “Hey, enough! You are full. Stop eating.” If you cannot switch on leptin, you will keep eating.

The inability to produce the right amount of bile can also lead to deficiencies of vitamins A, D, E, and K. All of these deficiencies can manifest in various health issues from bones, skin, autoimmune conditions, eye health, heart issues, and more.

The formation of gallstones is closely connected with insufficient bile production by the liver. If you have the right amount of bile, most people will never form gallstones in the first place. But most people want to cut off the gallbladder immediately (which may be a medically right reason in some cases), without addressing the root cause of the problem which may probably be a fatty liver and insufficient bile production.

In their desperation to lose weight, many people hop onto these crash weight loss programs that make them eat less fat. Understand this. You need fat to produce bile. People who are on statins have a bigger problem because statins block the production of cholesterol. Cholesterol is needed to make bile which in turn is required for digestion and other functions.

Now do you understand why looking at the production of bile is important? When we, as human beings, try to interfere with the very intelligence and balance required in every organ of the body, we have problems. We can treat the symptom, but we should never forget to address the root cause of the problem.

Let’s talk about this simple homemade beverage you can make to stimulate bile.

How to make this drink for your liver?

  • All you need is a glass of warm water.
  • Add a pinch of ginger powder to it. If you do not want to use dry ginger powder, take a half-inch piece of ginger and squeeze a quarter teaspoon of its fresh juice.
  • Squeeze half to one teaspoon of lemon juice.
  • Add half a teaspoon of turmeric powder and a pinch of black pepper.
  • Last but not least, add a teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil. It is the only oil you can use in this particular mix.
  • It is optional for you to use raw honey. (Do it if you are a fatty liver patient.)
  • Mix it up. It doesn’t taste bad at all. Drink this on an empty stomach first thing in the morning.
  • Let’s say you don’t like this. Add a twist and do this in one of my favorite ways. Take raw beetroot and juice it. Once done, add all the ingredients we discussed to the beetroot juice. Why beetroot? Because it is excellent to stimulate bile.

Who should be careful? Who will benefit from this drink?

If you are lined up for gallbladder surgery or have just been detected with heavy gallstones, waiting for your doctor’s appointment, and don’t know the course of your treatment, avoid this drink.

You can slowly start introducing this drink two months after the removal of your gallbladder. Remember, just because you don’t have a gallbladder doesn’t mean that you don’t produce bile. It is where most people get confused. Your liver produces bile. The gallbladder stores this bile in a more concentrated form which is used for the breakdown of your food and extraction of fat. Yes, you can live without a gallbladder, but there are several lifestyle changes you need to make.

If you suffer from indigestion, acidity, and excess bloating after your meals, it could also be due to insufficient bile. If you don’t have the right amount of bile, you will be unable to digest foods that contain fat. A symptom is when you have fatty or deep-fried foods and your digestion becomes sluggish and slow. It feels like the food is sitting in your stomach for a long time. It could be because you don’t have the right amount of digestive enzymes to break down fat.

Bile mixes with lipase, a digestive enzyme secreted by your pancreas. Together they break down and extract fat from the food that you eat. If you have a problem anywhere in this mechanism, you may face these digestive problems. So, use this drink well. It is simple to make but takes a little bit of effort.

Many of you may say, “I don’t have any of these symptoms. Just a few digestive issues.” What about you? There is no harm in doing this drink for a week and seeing if it improves. If it does, then you now know that you had low bile in the first place.

For people who are on statins, this drink is very effective for you. Because of the statins, you don’t have cholesterol to produce the right amount of bile which is why many individuals on statins end up having digestive issues, muscle spasms, pigmentation of the skin, and so on.

It is one of the best drinks for a fatty liver. Is this a magic drink that will take your fatty liver away? No. Over and above this drink, you need to exercise, cut down your carbohydrates, processed foods, and sugar, sleep well and look after your emotional wellness.
