  • Make a paste of dry roasted coconut, ginger, garlic and green chili using a blender.
  • Take 2 tsp of cold pressed coconut oil in a pan, add bay leaves, a cinnamon stick and cloves.
  • Add finely chopped onion and let it fry for some time.
  • Add the paste and let it cook well..
  • Add red kashmiri chilli powder and fry for 10 seconds.
  • Now add the remaining masala and cooked masoor dal.
  • Fry for 1 minute, add salt and water. You can adjust the consistency as per your preference.
  • Add jaggery and tamarind paste and let it simmer in a slow flame for 4 to 5 minutes.
  • Turn off the gas
  • Add fresh coriander as a garnish before serving.
  • Serve hot with rice, chapati or with jowar bhakri.

Notes

Masoor dal is a powerhouse of antioxidants which can effectively reduce cell damage.
It is rich in protein and vitamin A, C and E.
One can use any lentil as per availability.
