Sunday Exercise for Inner Peace and Joy: The Story of the Stubborn Suitcase That Wouldn’t Close

The story of the stubborn suitcase that wouldn’t close. A simple and powerful Sunday exercise for inner peace and inner joy.

A lesson on acceptance, letting go, and flowing.

Have you wondered what or who do you need to let go of to receive something or someone better in your life?

Let me set the context first with a little story.

Alfred had a suitcase and was planning a holiday. He packed all his necessities and favorite things into the suitcase and tried to close it. But it wouldn’t shut. He had to leave for the airport soon.

He was sad and wanted to carry everything but an inner voice told him to decide what he needed to let go of and remove it so he could close his suitcase and head to the airport to not miss the flight.

He had to prioritize what was really important and what he loved the most. And then remove and let go of what was not so he could close his suitcase and move on.

He made the changes, closed his bag, and headed for his amazing holiday.

What does this tell us?

The only way we can move on is to let go.

Our exercise today is simple.

  • Find a quiet place. Any place that makes you feel at ease, sip some coffee or tea or what you love.
  • Take a couple of deep belly breaths.
  • Take out your favorite journal and stationery. (Shop for them here.)
  • Now deeply reflect on who and what you need to let go.
  • What are the things that are keeping you stuck?
  • What is keeping you unhappy?
  • What is keeping you angry and sad?
  • On the right hand side of what you’ve written, now write what’s the worst that can happen if you let go.
  • Don’t worry. We are not making a decision. We are just planting powerful seeds of knowing and understanding.
  • Now reflect deeply and write down:
    • How would you feel and how would your life change if you let go
    • Also, write what’s stopping you from letting go. Be honest with yourself.
    • That’s all. Do this with deep reflection, feelings, and love for you.

You can reflect on the writings throughout the week and find and pray for strength and courage.

But it all starts with writing it down and believing.

Try this exercise and let me know how it worked for you.
