Unlock the Magic of Writing: A Simple 2-Minute Exercise That Can Transform Your Life!

Writing it down

Today, I want to introduce you to a simple exercise that has the potential to transform your life for the better, no matter what situation you may be in. When you read what it is, you may think, “Oh, Luke! It’s really basic.” Yet, many of us don’t do it.

It is a simple exercise we should all start doing. There is a good chance, many of you reading this may already be doing it. If your answer is a yes, pat yourself on the back.

This exercise is to – simply write it down.

I have one question for you: Are you willing to take two minutes each morning to do this? The choice is yours. A simple yes or no is the gap between you and a more organized, productive, and fulfilled life.

We make a list of all the things that we need to do at work. But what about for ourselves?

We may think about achieving some personal tasks in the morning. But then, several other thoughts follow. Sometimes, we forget to do them or push them on the back burner depending on how much we have prioritized it.

The act of writing connects the mind and the heart through the pen to a piece of paper. Why is this powerful? Because it is crucial for developing neural pathways in our brains.

If you want to learn something, keep writing it down.

  • Want to master multiplication tables?
  • Want to memorize something?
  • What workout are you doing today?
  • Which new asana are you going to learn?
    Write it down.

Every morning, it takes you less than two minutes to do this. Start writing.

Examples of how to do this:

  • Today, I will do squats
  • Today, I will learn one new Yoga asana
  • Today, I will invest 30 minutes in swimming
  • Today, I will practice five deep and meaningful minutes of meditation
  • Today, I will spend 10 minutes in silence

Whatever it is, write it down. It makes a big difference. And then at the end of your day, you can always look at that list. If you have achieved what you set out to and wrote down, your brain will release your reward molecule dopamine. It makes you feel great about yourself. It is almost like a mini celebration in the mind. You will want to become more consistent to chase the same feeling day after day. It will build practice, discipline, and habits.

That’s how you turn small wins into big wins and lifestyle.

And as you start to do these things you have been writing, you find a different kind of peace within you. The only way to realize or experience what I am saying is by doing it.

I believe that the word ‘self-realization’ is gold.

You may have observed how we keep asking others, “Hey, did this work for you?” Instead, how about you try this first and see if it works for you?

It may work for you or may not. But there is no way of knowing unless you try it yourself.

Get into the habit of writing it down. It adds a little bit of accountability on you because sometimes, at the end of the day, we know we’ve planned to work out in the morning, and then we miss it because life gets in the way. But it’s never too late. If you write it down, there’s accountability in that process. Even if it takes five minutes to get some movement.

It takes me less than two minutes to take out my notepad and pen in the morning, which I love doing. I know I always have the option to type, but I like to connect paper with a pencil or a pen because I also love stationary.

Another powerful exercise to take this a step further is this.

It is also amazing to write down your feelings.

How do you want to feel? “Today, I want to feel amazing. I want to feel healthy. I want to feel energetic. I want to be kind.” Write what you want to feel in that moment.

When you are feeling low, angry, or out of control, open up a page on your journal or notepad and start writing anything that comes to mind. It could be the most unhinged thoughts that are bothering you. It doesn’t have to make sense. You are writing randomly. It is a beautiful way to vent when you cannot vent your thoughts or feelings to anyone else around you.

See where the flow takes you. Once done, it is up to you if you want to keep that sheet of paper or get rid of it.

You don’t always have to wait to feel bad to start writing it down, you can even use this opportunity to write what makes you happy.

Just keep writing. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s okay if it does not make sense, has grammatical errors, or has missing punctuation.

The bottom line

Whether it is your daily to-do list, your fitness goals, or simply jotting down your feelings, writing has the power to unlock your full potential. Grab that journal or notepad, let your thoughts and words flow freely onto the paper.

Once you do this, you will feel better and lighter. Even if you have a vision, dream, or goal, write it down first on a piece of paper. Try this today and let me know how it made you feel.
