Quicker and deeper sleep

Have you woken up in the middle of the night to kick off your covers or throw one leg out of the bedsheet to sleep better? Studies also suggest that how early you fall asleep and its quality depends on your body and environmental temperature, among other factors.

A cooler room temperature can help you fall asleep faster. The National Sleep Foundation (US) suggests this could range between 15.6 to 19.4°C. But like we always say, you are unique. Find your comfort level and ideal temperature.

Wearing tight-fitting clothes or sleeping in rooms with warm temperatures can disrupt your sleeping pattern and pull you out of deep sleep. Want to avoid overheating? Sleep naked. Sleeping naked will help your body cool down faster and help you reach the deep sleep phase. Your body temperature also affects your circadian rhythm or the sleep and wake-up cycle responsible for your four stages of sleep. Sleeping naked helps bring your body temperature down naturally. It creates the perfect atmosphere to dose into a peaceful and uninterrupted rest mode.

Improved immunity

Quality deep sleep is therapeutic. It rejuvenates, repairs, heals, protects, grows, balances, and more. Sleep deprivation is the number one cause of low immunity, poor growth, delayed healing, mood swings, unexplained cravings, belly fat, and rapid aging. Rest is where the magic happens. If sleeping naked boosts deep sleep, it can improve your immunity, keep infection-causing pathogens at bay and also increase your mental alertness.

Natural glow

Have you woken up with puffy eyes and face after a night of disturbed sleep? There is a reason the idiom goes: get your beauty sleep. The quality of your sleep can influence your skin health. Deep sleep can boost collagen production, give you a natural glow and accelerate wound healing. So if you want to bid those eye bags goodbye and help your skin rejuvenate? Check if sleeping naked helps you.

Improved male fertility

Did you know that tight underwear can increase genital heat and lower sperm concentration and count? It is why we always recommend people to also choose boxers over tighty whities. Poor sleep can also affect libido and semen quality. Sleeping naked can help keep your scrotum and testicles cooler and boost sperm concentration and reproductive health. Go commando and sleep freely for better sexual health.

Better vaginal health

Are you vulnerable to frequent yeast infections? Sleeping naked could help you by keeping candida yeast at bay. Damp and sweaty tight-fitting synthetic underwears that hardly have any breathing space for your vagina are a breeding ground for candida overgrowth. These cause inflammation, pain, and itching if left unaddressed. Want to reduce your risk to them? Get naked.

Deeper intimacy and healthy libido

Want to boost libido and get that extra dose of love? Sleep naked and ask your partner to join you in bed. It will enhance your intimacy and strengthen your bond. Skin-to-skin contact can lower stress and anxiety and release the love or cuddle hormone oxytocin.

Enhanced moods

Sleeping naked can improve your mental health. Apart from lowering anxiety, it reduces stress by lowering your cortisol levels, restores balance, enhances your mood, improves concentration, and reduces your risk of insomnia or chronic sleep deprivation.

Fat-loss

Yes, looking after your nutrition, exercise, and emotional health is important to get rid of excess weight. But did you know sleep also plays a crucial role in getting rid of that belly fat? You burn calories while you are in a state of complete rest. Sleeping naked helps you bring down your body temperature and activates your brown fat or brown adipose tissues to create heat and regulate your temperature by burning calories. Watch this to know more about brown fat.

Improved self-esteem and body image

Many of us struggle to love and respect our bodies as we grow up with years of trauma and body image issues. In a world where the pressure to meet unrealistic beauty and body standards push young people to hop from one fad diet and exercise regimen to another, feeling comfortable in your own skin can be a struggle. Sleeping naked (though difficult at first) will help you look at your body in a new light, accept it for the temple it is and encourage self-love.

What are some tips to keep in mind while sleeping naked?

  • Maintain the right temperature that suits your body. Keeping the room extra cold or extra-warm will interfere with your sleep patterns.
  • Take a warm shower close to your bedtime. It will help regulate your body temperature and also keep your sheets clean.
  • The quality and fabric of your sheets matter. Get good quality sheets, and wash and change them frequently. It will help maintain hygiene.
  • Are you struggling to sleep completely naked? Start by sleeping in loose undergarments or an oversized t-shirt. Lose the layers over days according to your comfort.
  • Want to sleep naked with your partner? Inform them and ask if they are comfortable joining you.
  • If privacy is an issue or you sleepwalk, sleep in your underwear or loose t-shirt to avoid exposing yourself to those you share your living space with.
  • Build a bedtime routine to relax. Read a book, take a warm shower, diffuse essential oils, practice left nostril breathing, and drink this sleep potion to prepare for bedtime.
  • If you cannot sleep naked, wear natural fibers rather than synthetic fibers. This will allow your body breathing space, boost blood circulation, and lymphatic flow.
